STOP RELYING ON YOUR HOROSCOPE, YOU CAN FIND LOVE IN 2018

I’m in my early thirties. I’m a strong, independent and yes, divorced woman; who happens to live thousands of miles away from her family in one of the largest cities in the world, London.

I try to enjoy life at its fullest because if there’s something I’ve learnt is to seize the moment - Travel as much as I can, buy the shoes, drink the wine, eat the cake, do all the things that make my soul happy. I don’t allow any room for negativity or resentful feelings in my heart and I’m very focused on building a more meaningful and fulfilling life.

I’ve come to a point where I feel at absolute peace with myself and where I am. Still, I feel like there’s something missing…

I’ve never been the type of woman who gets her heart broken and becomes consumed by anger and revenge, I just don’t have time (or energy) for that. I rather do good and focus on the positive side of things. I believe in second chances and new beginnings. I believe we all deserve to be loved and have somebody to love. After all, what would be of this world without love?

One of my resolutions for this year is to be more open for love. Somehow, after going through some bad experiences, I’ve developed a tendency to put my shell on and block my feelings to avoid being hurt again. This has got to stop. It’s been my mechanism of defence for years but I’ve come to realize it’s not allowing me to love the way I want to; that ridiculous, consuming, can’t live without each other love that Carrie Bradshaw thought us about.

Living in such a large city like London has a lot of advantages, and you might think it’s the perfect place to find love because well, it’s full of people! I wish it was just that easy. The truth is that the bigger the city, the harder it gets to find people you can genuinely connect with. Everyone seems to be so busy and minding their own business, and I perfectly get that because that’s exactly what I do; I need to be selective with my time and who I spend it with because let’s face it, we are all VERY BUSY. But when do I make time for love then? How do I find that special someone if I don’t go out clubbing or have friends who happen to have very interesting, good looking male friends? The answer is on my phone.

As a millennial, I was born with a mobile phone attached to my body. Around 70% of my everyday activities are done on or with the support of my phone, so why not trying online dating? It takes a lot of stress from the whole dating process and it’s much safer than the traditional method; plus you can decide whether you want to meet someone or not after a few conversations which also removes the awkwardness of ghosting someone after a failed first date. I literally can’t believe it has taken me this long to figure this out!

The largest dating app in the market is Badoo; and with over 364 million users, that’s a lot to choose from. The app is very user friendly so you don’t need to be a techy to be able to use it. You can easily register with your Facebook profile or create a new one in a few simple steps if you prefer more privacy. Once you’re logged-in the app starts giving you suggestions based on proximity so you can easily identify the one who catches your eye - you can also filter by age, gender and location so you’re not viewing random profiles that may not be of your interest. It also has a very cool functionality called “Lookalike” in which you can upload a picture of someone, let’s say your famous crush (mine would be something like a full body picture of Thor or Wolverine because apparently, I have a thing for superheroes now), and the app will find the lookalikes in for you, you can also see the people who look like you and OMG, it’s crazy fun!

As my first experience using a dating app, I must say I’m having a lot of fun with Badoo! I don’t know if I’ll find the love of my life on it, but I’m up for the challenge!

I’d like to close this post reminding you that love is everywhere, you just need to be open to it. Don’t let experiences from the past hold you back or make you bitter, because at the end of the day all we really need is love.

I wish you all a fantastic 2018 full of love, romance and fun adventures with Badoo!

  1. Here's to finding love! I haven't heard of Badoo before but I know dating apps have been very successful at matching people up. Even my sister met her husband on a dating app and they've been married for a long time now. Dating is definitely difficult and I think it's great that there's an app like Badoo to connect you to people that perhaps you haven't found or met on your own. I hope you find someone amazing that supports and loves you in every which way. xoxo, Christine

  2. I hope you find love too! Everyone deserves to feel special and loved. I'm so clueless about dating apps and sites since I've been married for almost 8 years now. A lot of my friends are on those dating apps so I'm going to have to tell them about Badoo now! Thank you for sharing and I hope you find your special someone soon. :)

  4. Funny you should say that because my partner and I met on a dating app and I honestly wouldn't have met anyone like him unless I had jumped on an app like Badoo/Happn/Bumble. Just be open to new experiences and meeting new people because I've also made some great friends through these dating apps too!!

  6. I never knew that this app existed. London is a huge city but I can understand how it might be hard to meet someone. My best friend lives in Toronto and same kind of thing. I'm glad that you are putting yourself out there. Everyone deserves love. I wish you all the very best. xo

  8. What a great way to start 2018. I was actually the same way for such a long time! I met my bf on a dating app as well. I think meeting genuine people in general is a tough thing. And i hope that you meet someone whether it’s for fun or for love. It’s good to be open. You’ll learn so much more about yourself and what you want that way

  9. I thought that Badoo app was popular among Russian users, but see more Europeans using it. I feel a bit happy that I met my husband without any technology and talk to each other despite of language lack. But I hope you will meet someone special out there, because my husband's bestie found her love through dating app ;)

  14. You are amazing, strong and so independent! I haven't been in the dating scene for a loong time now, but my single friends are all about meeting people online. It does make it hard for them, because it seems like they are always looking for the next best thing. I will have to refer Badoo to them. Maybe they'll find the one on this app.

  15. Hi dear!

I live in a big city too and I agree that it’s REALLY HARD to find a love in megapolis.
This app you mentioned in the post is really perfect to find the right person, or at least a friend.
I’ve tried it a few months ago and I really like it!

  16. It's so hard to connect with people now a days... gosh I feel like I sound like a grandma but it's true. We are in a time where it's easy to have more online friendships then real-life ones. If it's like that for freindships I can imagine finiding a parter is all the more difficult. I've never heard of the dating app but I think it's quite funny and fun that you can find look alikes. It was good to get to know more about your story and I love hpw you put this outfit together! Perfectly paired details! I wish you the best and I hope you continue to have so much fun on the app!

  19. You have such a positive and optimistic outlook on life and it's so contagious and motivating for all of us I'm sure, especially myself! You will definitely find love very soon, if not this year, as long as you let it find you and you not look for it. I'm so excited to see how well 2018 turns out for you :)
